Developing the Netherlands' future top executives in the Veluwe forests

"From the A1 highway you drive straight into the forest. And when you arrive at the hotel, you truly feel immersed in nature. A sense of calm immediately comes over you." That calm is exactly what's needed for the Young Captain Program. A two-day intensive program by Young Captain Netherlands where future top executives of the Netherlands develop and connect with each other. At the end of August, the program took place at Bilderberg Résidence Groot Heideborgh. Twenty-two candidates worked on leadership, boardroom skills and personal dilemmas. From intensive workshops and boxing as a metaphor for leadership to a barbecue among the trees. Saskia Hooft, director of Young Captain Netherlands, talks about the importance of a forested environment during this intensive leadership program: "For candidates who absorb a lot of information and learn new things about themselves, a peaceful environment is truly a plus. I regularly saw them take a walk to process everything." During these days in the forests of Bilderberg Résidence Groot Heideborgh, what the executives envisioned twenty years ago became visible once again: a group of young leaders who develop, connect with each other, and thus contribute to a stronger Netherlands.
